Shafi Mohd & Brothers Company (SMB) is committed to ensuring a safe & healthful workplace & protecting the environment. We believe that safety & protecting the environment is good business & that all work-related injuries, illnesses, property losses & adverse environmental impacts are preventable.

 

To fulfill this commitment, our Company will:

  • Ensure that management accepts full responsibility for protecting worker’s safety, health & the environment.
  • Give health, safety & environmental considerations equal status with the Company’s other business objectives & integrate them into all aspects of our work.
  • Work actively to continuously improve health, safety & environmental performance.
  • Only start work after confirming that essential health, safety & environmental protection systems are in place, & willingly suspend activities if safety, health or the protection of the environment would be compromised.
  • Encourage supervisors & workers (employees & contractors) to be individually responsible for identifying & eliminating hazards, preventing injury to themselves & others, & preventing adverse environmental impacts. Provide personnel with sufficient training, resources & systems.
  • Provide & maintain properly engineered facilities, plants & equipment.
  • Minimize waste generation, air emissions & other discharges from our activities to the environment.
  • Actively monitor, audit & review to improve systems, processes, health, safety & environmental performance.
  • As a minimum, ensure regulatory compliance at all times.
  • Hold contractors & third parties accountable for adhering to the Company’s health, safety & environmental policy & audit contractor systems & procedures to ensure satisfactory health, safety & environmental performance.
  • Hold supervisors accountable for ensuring & promoting a safe & healthful workplace & the protection of the environment within their areas of responsibility by ensuring that workers are knowledgeable & have access to:
  1. a) publications of the latest applicable laws & regulations.
  2. b) health, safety & environment rules & safe work standards.
  3. c) operating & critical task procedures.
  4. d) emergency response procedures.
  5. e) environmental protection requirements.
  • Hold workers at all levels accountable for being fit for work at the beginning & throughout their shifts & when on call.

 

  • Develop, implement & manage a system of accountability for health, safety & environment roles & responsibilities at all levels of the company. Inform employees & contractors of this policy, & make it available at all Company worksites.

 

  • We firmly believe responsibility for application of this policy rests with management, employees & contractors associated with SMB.
